How The MindGym is bridging the gap in mental health support in the UK

When Jordan Jaggers, a mental health professional and personal trainer, saw firsthand how underfunded and inaccessible mental health support could be, he knew something had to change. Fueled by a passion to bridge the gap between therapy and movement, he launched The MindGym—a platform designed to make mental fitness more approachable, more holistic, and more human. But to bring that vision to life, Jordan needed a platform that could flex to both his message and his design—without the tech overhead. That’s when he found Movement.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your business?

I'm 30 now, and I’ve been working in mental health for over 10 years. I mainly worked with younger people and, through the NHS, I delivered short-term therapeutic interventions. As anyone in the field knows, there’s a lot of underfunding in mental health services—and that’s something I witnessed firsthand.

I’ve always felt driven to make a bigger impact, and that’s been the crux of what I do. But over time, it became clear just how flawed the system was. Waitlists for support were three months long—sometimes more—and the cost of private intervention is quite expensive.

So, I decided to take things into my own hands. Alongside my mental health work, I’ve always had a background in exercise and personal training, and I’ve seen how powerful movement can be for your mental health.

That’s where the idea for The MindGym came from—a way to merge both worlds and help educate people about what they do have control over, in a way that’s practical and accessible.

I wanted a platform that could bring together all the knowledge I had from working in the NHS, from personal training, from mental health education, and build something that made sense. Movement offered that exact synergy.

"So for me, it was a no-brainer. As soon as I came across Movement, I knew it was the right way to bring this passion to life and offer something that could fill the gaps left by the system."

Was there a specific problem or challenge you were having that led you to Movement?

It came down to the flawed system in mental health accessibility. And from my work as a personal trainer, I saw how people exercise just to lose body fat but it’s not just about fat loss. There’s so much more to it than a body change. The mental impact movement has is huge. It’s honestly one of the best brain tools that anyone can use.

The real problem was educating people that exercise isn’t just about weight loss, it’s about mental well-being too. And with the underfunding here in the UK, especially through the NHS, I wanted to create an alternative option. Movement gave me the platform to start pushing that.

How did you find the experience of setting up your app in Movement?

It's been so smooth, honestly. I found Movement at a time when I had just been let go from a performance training facility that ended up shutting down. I was left in limbo, asking myself, “What do I do now? Where do I take my own business?

That’s when I started scouring the internet for a platform that could really bring my passion to life. I tried so many free trials—there are a lot of platforms out there—but the problem I kept running into was that most of them either only focused on education with no way to customize anything, or they only do the health side, like Trainerize and PT Distinction with workout builders and nutrition, but with no space for educational content.

I spent weeks trying to find something that could do both. Then I found Movement. I remember landing on the website and thinking, “My god, this is too easy to be free.” And even your free plan was really generous.

"And from the get-go, the design was beautiful—and since I first started last year, you’ve made so many updates that made it even more seamless. But what really stood out was the fact you could honestly customize everything. Every little part you wanted, you could customize and it’s easy to do. It’s smooth. There’s no learning curve."

Honestly, the platform was everything I wanted and more.

Do you have any tips for anyone else creating an app?

Just test it out. The worst that can happen is you’ll learn whether it’s right for you. And honestly, I can guarantee you’ll stick around.

If you’re looking for what I was looking for, something that doesn’t go through the App Store, Movement is it. I didn’t want to deal with all the costly updates, waiting for approval from developers, and all of that. With Movement, updates just happen. You can see what’s new, you announce the changes—it’s easy.

Also, being able to test and create templates has been a game-changer. When I create a block with multiple sections (buttons, text, images), I make sure to save that whole row as a template. That’s been massive for workouts. If I want the same layout with different sets of exercises, I can keep the top part of the screen consistent. It saves so much time.

That would be my biggest tip: when you start, template anything you know you’ll use again. It’ll save you heaps.

Have you seen any tangible benefits or measurable impact since launching your app with Movement?

It's still early days so I'm still trying to work out the path and get it out there. I have this vision in mind—while it’s not public yet, I’m thinking about going down the employee wellbeing route.

The idea is to work directly with businesses and offer the app as a workplace mental fitness platform for their employees. Then, ideally, work one-on-one with business leaders as well.

That’s where I want to take it. I’ve found that work stress is a major contributor for a lot of people, and this platform could really help with that. I think it could have a huge impact on business productivity, staff wellbeing, and the overall culture of working together.

"I’ve got a few people on the app at the moment and the feedback’s been really positive. I’m still figuring out the path—but once I know exactly where I want to go, I know it’ll make a real impact."

Do you have any specific feedback from your members?

I think having everything hosted in one place has been really beneficial for them. Especially for things like scheduling and planning—when something pops up in their calendar, that really helps.

"I’ve used other apps in the past that were basically a bunch of different software pieced together—one for messaging, a different one for workouts, something else for education. But with Movement, I don’t need a separate platform for educational content. I can do all the health stuff here too, and it keeps everything really central."

The biggest feedback I’ve had is that users love not having to jump between multiple apps. It’s all in one place—and that’s made a huge difference.

How did you plan your app?

Just a lot of notes, and a lot of testing. That’s the beauty of Movement, right? You can try something out, and if it doesn’t work, you just delete it.

"It’s fully customizable from the start, so you’re not locked into anything. "

I also met with a few people to chat about the idea and get their thoughts, which gave me some really good feedback. That’s pretty much how it all started.

Did you go anywhere for inspiration, or did the design ideas just come to you?

I looked at a lot of other apps already hosted on Movement, especially from some of the big creators. There were some really nice designs in there. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and don’t have a huge creative background, so seeing those examples gave me a lot of inspiration around design and what kind of services or layouts others are offering. That really helped me shape my own approach.

What advice would you give to others on how to level up their design—especially if they don’t have a design background and are doing it themselves?

One of the biggest things I use is the transparency feature. Since you updated it to allow text overlays directly on the image rather than over everything, that’s been such a good change. I’d definitely recommend using that—it gives you a nice transparent text effect over the top, and it just looks really professional.

Another tip would be to use contrast in your layouts. If you’re using a darker background image, go with a lighter text section over it—or vice versa. That helps separate things visually and makes it feel more polished.

Also, play around with the content blocks. Don’t just keep them all the same size—mix it up! Use a variety of layouts: maybe have one with text beside an image, or a longer content block next to a smaller one. That kind of variety looks really clean and makes your design feel more intentional.

What role do you think design plays in attracting new members or selling into organizations?

It plays a big role.

"The app looks really professional, and I love that I can make real-time updates. If I’m speaking to a business, I could even create a specific portal just for them, which adds flexibility."

The fact that they can preview the app without needing to download anything or pay is huge. I can block off certain parts too, so they can get a sense of it without full access. That’s been really useful to show what their employees would get.

Eventually, I want to create a promo video—something where I’m using the app, picking a workout, and then cutting to me doing that workout in real life. That kind of synergy between the app and real-world experience will help businesses really get it.

What’s surprised you most about using Movement?

Your customer service has been amazing. I had an issue with an email problem due to Apple ID, and I’d also requested the ability to have a private membership active but hidden from public view. Your team made it happen in a week!

"I was blown away—that level of support was just so helpful. So I’ve got to say, your customer service has been incredible."
