Pilates with purpose: How The Mama Physio scaled her pregnancy & postpartum app by 400%

As both a Pelvic and Women’s Health Physio and a Pilates Instructor, Jess Jenkins—better known as The Mama Physio—saw a clear gap in the online fitness space: programs for women that went beyond “pregnancy-safe” workouts and truly supported them through the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

Drawing on her clinical expertise and her own experience through two pregnancies—including twins—she designed a program that combines rehabilitative Pilates with evidence-based education, empowering women to feel strong, confident, and connected to their bodies again.

But building this kind of experience online wasn’t easy. After struggling with clunky, limited tools like Squarespace, she discovered Movement—a platform that gave her the freedom to design her own branded app, add programs, host education, and connect with her community, all in one place.

Now, with a 400% increase in members since switching to Movement, her business is growing faster than ever, while helping women everywhere rebuild, recover, and thrive.

What kind of business do you run, and who do you help?

I'm a Pelvic and Women's Health Physio and Pilates Instructor, and combined these passions to create an online Pilates studio with programs and education for pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. There are loads of online Pilates studios, but I found there was a gap in the market for online studios with structured and rehabilitative Pilates workouts. Many of the studios just provided ‘pregnancy safe’ workouts, but when patients developed hip or back pain, or pelvic floor issues, they had no idea what they could and couldn't do. This is when I decided to take matters into my own hands and bring my idea to life. I filmed and tested the program during my own pregnancy and postpartum, and have since completed it again during and after my second pregnancy with twins, and tweaked the program slightly.

What were you using before Movement, and what wasn't working?

I was using Squarespace, purely because I knew how to use it as l'd previously built my website there. It was really clunky—it didn't provide the features that I wanted, but I was also very green and didn't know anything else out there existed that I could build myself. I actually built the original membership on a ‘blog’ page and added tags to each workout for filters. It was very basic!

"I was using Squarespace … It was really clunky—it didn't provide the features that I wanted."

What stood out to you about Movement compared to other options?

I did a lot of research, looking at the other creators apps, speaking to competitors, and calculating financials. Movement was a standout due to its ease of use, customizable features, and affordable price, but what got me over the line was:

  1. That I could genuinely build the entire app myself without any IT experience

  2. The 1:1 support offered by Movement. Even when I joined on the ‘free’ plan, the Movement team reached out to me to offer an onboarding video call, which was unbelievably helpful. They helped with ideas of how I could bring my vision to life—and took my suggestions for app updates, too. And those app updates have since been added to the platform!

What changed for your business after switching to Movement?

My goal was to reach the same number of members I had on my old platform. I reached this goal within a few months and have since seen a 400% increase in members over two years! The features of the platform have also meant that I could add more programs, challenges, an on-demand library, messaging, and educational content. I've been able to tweak the program behind the scenes whilst completing it during this most recent pregnancy, as well as doing an evidence update as well.

What would you say to another coach who's considering switching to Movement?

Movement is a fantastic program for beginners to design and publish their own app! I'd recommend signing up for the free plan to check out the platform and see if it's suitable for your needs—because you really have nothing to lose! I'd also chat to the Movement support team to discuss your vision as well.

"I'm really proud of what l've created on Movement and so grateful for all the support from the team over the last couple of years."
