How SKDance replaced a patchwork of YouTube, Mailchimp, and socials with one branded app on Movement

Monica McCormick

Shane McIntyre and Keri McLean have been dancing together for over 15 years, as partners on the floor and partners in life. The duo behind ShaneKeriDance (SKDance) built their reputation on a simple belief: that movement has the power to transform lives, building confidence, creating connection, and bringing more joy into everyday moments.

Based in Sydney, they've taken that belief across Australia and beyond—wedding choreography, West Coast Swing, date night programs, and social dance for complete beginners through to seasoned dancers. High-energy, personality-led, and genuinely fun.

When COVID pushed their in-person studio online, they improvised like most creators did: a custom-built website, YouTube for video hosting, Mailchimp for emails, and Keri personally holding the community together across socials. It worked, until it didn't.

When Keri's vision expanded beyond a video library to a branded space that could hold their courses, community, and resources all in one place, Shane went looking. What he found was Movement.

Can you tell us about our business and who you help?

We're Keri and Shane, a couple with over 30 years of dance experience and a background spanning Ballroom, Ballet, Swing, Tap, Latin, and Country. Before relocating to Sydney, we ran our own dance studio in Denver, Colorado for more than 20 years, and we've competed internationally too, placing in the top five at the world's most prestigious Swing Dance championships for 13 years running.

SKDance is for everyone, complete beginners to seasoned social dancers. We're well known for our wedding dance coaching, helping couples create a first dance that actually feels like them, but we offer a lot more than that. Private lessons, group classes, social dance events, workshops, and online courses covering everything from West Coast Swing and Country partner dancing to Ballroom, Latin, and dance fitness. In person, mobile, virtual, or online—we meet our students wherever they are.

What problem were you facing before using Movement?

We needed a proper platform for our online courses. We did hire someone to build a website which could host our online course videos (over COVID) but the technology was just not at the point which we needed. We ended up on YouTube, with me manually holding the community together through the socials, Mailchimp, personal email and the like. It was disjointed and labour intensive.

We thought we'd go with Vimeo but when I explained to Shane my wider vision—of having a place to foster our community and where our users can locate all (or most) of our resources in one place—well, that's when he did a deep dive and eventually found Movement.so.

Why did you choose Movement to create your own app & platform?

My Partner, Shane, has been conducting extensive searches for months in order to find something that fit our need & is also within our budget.

"Shane has been conducting extensive searches for months."

What did you particularly like about using Movement?

Two things stand out. First, I'm able to build it myself and have the ability to update the app easily to keep things current. Second, the support: I've found the AI and human agents help to be very accommodating.

Would you recommend Movement to other coaches and creators?

Yes—for the same reasons as above.

Keri and Shane built ShaneKeriDance around a belief that dance is for everyone—and sharing that with students around the world meant finding a platform that could actually hold all of it: courses, community, content, and communication, in one space Keri can update herself.

When they found Movement, that vision clicked into place.

For dance instructors, performing arts educators, and creative professionals who have spent years piecing together an online course platform from YouTube, email tools, and manually managed social communities—Keri and Shane's path will feel familiar. The vision was always there. The infrastructure just hadn't caught up. Now it has.
