How Daily J scaled their community-first fitness platform after outgrowing Facebook Groups

Johno and Juls Meintjes didn't just want to deliver workouts—they wanted to build a community where movement becomes normal, not negotiable. Johno is an international sports conditioning specialist who's worked with Cricket South Africa, South African Rugby, and Chinese Olympic provinces. Juls is a certified kettlebell instructor passionate about empowering women to prioritize their health. Together, they created Daily J: a community-first fitness platform where the team help busy women (and men) build consistency with movement, strength, and healthy habits—without extremes, pressure, or perfection.

But for years, Daily J was running entirely through a closed Facebook Group, and it came with serious limitations. Music licensing issues forced them to manually upload and delete workouts every month. Members couldn't access a library of historical programs, and Facebook ads disrupted workouts mid-session. Plus, as a South African-based business, navigating payments and scalability was a constant challenge.

When switching to Movement, they planned to launch in December during the busy holiday period and braced for technical issues. Instead? The launch went flawlessly. Members logged in easily, accessed workouts immediately, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Now, Daily J delivers more content than ever, with better playlists, seamless onboarding, and steady membership growth—all while the team focuses on what matters: building genuine relationships with their community.

Can you tell us about our business and who you help?

Daily J is an online fitness and wellness platform built for real life.

We help busy women (and men) build consistency with movement, strength, and healthy habits—without extremes, pressure, or perfection.

What makes Daily J different is our community-first approach. This isn't a place where you disappear into a library of workouts and hope for the best. It's a space where showing up is the norm, accountability is built in, and movement becomes something you do—not something you keep restarting.

Another key differentiator is our hands-on leadership. The Daily J team is actively inside our accountability groups—doing the workouts, sharing real life, and connecting daily with our members. We know our members by name. We build genuine relationships. And we fight to keep people moving and prioritising their health, even when life gets busy.

We focus on resistance training and functional movement, with a strong emphasis on consistency. Our core structure encourages members to train at least three days per week—Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—creating a sustainable rhythm that fits into real life. From there, optional and flexible cardio sessions can be added, allowing members to tailor their training around their schedules rather than the other way around.

Our approach is about building sustainable routines that support long-term health—not quick fixes. Our members are people who want to feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies at every stage of life.

What drives us is seeing people shift from "I should exercise" to "this is just part of who I am now." When movement becomes normal, not negotiable—and when people feel supported rather than judged—everything changes. That's why we do what we do.

What problem were you facing before using Movement?

Before using Movement, we were running our entire platform through a closed Facebook Group—and it came with real limitations.

We hosted our recorded workouts directly inside Facebook, which created ongoing issues with music licensing. We couldn't use copyrighted music, and every month we had to manually load new workouts and remove old ones to make space for new programs. It was clunky, time-consuming, and far from ideal.

Because of this setup, we also couldn't give our members access to a proper library of historical programs. Previous workouts and additional training "top-ups" had to be uploaded as guides inside the Facebook Group, which made navigation and user experience frustrating.

Another major pain point was Facebook introducing ads that played during workouts. This disrupted sessions and negatively impacted the experience for our members—especially during focused training.

What made you choose Movement over other platforms? Did you try any others?

We had previous experience building our own app on an earlier platform, which gave us firsthand insight into the complexity, cost, and ongoing issues that come with managing a custom-built app. We knew we didn't want to go down that route again.

We explored several other platforms and trialled free versions of a number of apps, but Movement stood out head and shoulders above the rest.

What ultimately made us choose Movement was a combination of simplicity, support, and usability. The done-for-you setup helped us get up and running quickly without needing technical expertise. The platform requires minimal prior experience, and the in-app chatbot support made it easy to build and troubleshoot as we went.

From an operational perspective, the backend is intuitive and easy for our team to manage, while the frontend experience is equally simple and clean for our members to navigate. Movement is also affordable, which made it accessible and scalable for our business.

What really set the experience apart, though, was the level of support. Steve and the team genuinely bent over backwards to accommodate us—even with the time difference, they were consistently available and responsive to our questions. The post-launch support has been equally impressive, which has given us confidence knowing we're backed by a team that truly cares about our success.

How has Movement helped you grow, simplify, or scale?

Movement has played a major role in helping us simplify our operations while supporting steady, sustainable growth.

We went into our app launch fully bracing for impact—expecting teething problems, questions, and technical hiccups, especially launching in December right before the holiday period. Instead, the launch went off without a single issue.

Members were able to log in easily, access workouts immediately, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. We're now able to offer more content than ever before, and members genuinely feel the increased value of what's available to them.

The onboarding process for new members is significantly simpler and more seamless, which has reduced friction from the very first touchpoint. As a result, we're seeing far fewer support issues and pain points overall, as members are enjoying the app experience and finding it intuitive to use.

From a content perspective, Movement has allowed us to level up the experience. We can now use better playlists, which our community absolutely loves, and this has transformed the energy of our recorded workouts.

Movement has also helped us showcase our offering far more effectively. Potential members can sample free workouts, browse content, and really understand what Daily J is about before committing—which has been a game-changer.

As a result, our membership growth has been climbing steadily.

What features or aspects of Movement have been most useful for your work?

The app library has been a game-changer. It allows us to house our full range of workouts and programs in one organised, accessible space, giving members easy access to both current and historical content without clutter or confusion.

The ability to schedule workouts and recipes directly into a member's calendar has significantly improved consistency and adherence. It removes decision fatigue for members and helps them plan their week in advance, making it far easier to prioritise movement and nutrition in real life.

We've also found the templates incredibly useful. They're intuitive, easy to customise, and allow us to roll out programs, challenges, and content quickly without needing too much technical expertise—which saves time and keeps our focus where it belongs: on our community.

What would you tell another coach or creator considering Movement?

If you're sitting there thinking, "I just want something that works," this is it. Movement takes away so much of the friction—from setup to delivery—and lets you show up fully as a coach instead of a tech manager. The platform is easy, the support is solid, and your members actually enjoy using it. For us, it's been one of the best decisions we've made.

For years, Johno and Juls ran Daily J through a Facebook Group—manually uploading and deleting workouts monthly, dealing with music licensing restrictions, and watching mid-workout ads disrupt their members' sessions. They knew their community-first approach deserved better than platform workarounds.

When they switched to Movement, they got a flawless launch, organized content libraries, better playlists their community loves, and seamless onboarding that reduced support issues to nearly zero.

Now Daily J is scaling steadily while the team focuses on what matters: showing up for their community every single day.

For any fitness coach running their business through Facebook Groups and tired of manual workarounds and platform limitations getting in the way, Daily J's story proves the right platform can change everything.
