Alyssa Ellis is a Certified Surgical First Assistant and Surgical Technologist with nearly 17 years in the Operating Room. After building 170,000 followers in about a year by sharing real OR knowledge on social media, she kept hearing the same thing: "I would pay money for this information." That's when she knew it was time to turn her expertise into something more than just free content.
She created Beyond Assisting to solve a problem she'd seen repeatedly throughout her career: healthcare workers stepping into the Operating Room without proper training, feeling lost, and sometimes quitting because of it. She needed a platform where she could organize surgical education—suturing tutorials, surgical setup guides, procedure prep—in a way that busy OR professionals could actually navigate and use when they needed it most.
Movement gave Alyssa exactly what she needed for an all-in-one education hub: easy video organization, simple navigation, and the ability to build a subscription model without technical headaches. The result? Beyond Assisting launched in May 2025 and has already generated over 950 sales, 77 active members, and nearly $14,000 in revenue—proof that when you deliver valuable professional education the right way, people will pay for it.

Can you tell us about our business and who you help?
My name is Alyssa Ellis. I am a Certified Surgical Technologist, Certified Surgical First Assistant, and Robotic Coordinator. I have worked in the Operating Room for almost 17 years, and I created Beyond Assisting to share my knowledge and understanding of the Operating Room with others who are passionate about their careers in healthcare.
Beyond Assisting is a digital hub for anyone stepping into the OR—from med students and residents to surgical techs, nurses, and first assists. The app delivers organized, easy-to-follow educational content on everything from suturing to surgical setup, featuring my own videos, tutorials, and signature sarcastic commentary that keeps learning real (and fun).
There are so many parts when it comes to surgery, and I feel like when you have someone who knows how to explain things in a certain way, it helps you grow exponentially in your career. I have seen many times where others haven't gotten good training or preceptors, and they have quit because of it. I want to be someone that others can turn to for help and create a platform where everyone can work together and ask questions without feeling dumb in doing so.
I'm passionate about making surgical education accessible, real—and let's be honest—actually fun. I teach, create, and share content that blends humor with hard-earned OR experience, helping others feel confident, prepared, and human in high-pressure environments. As I always say: "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle." Even if I have helped one person feel more confident in their role in the OR, or walking into the OR for the first time, then I feel like I have done what I set out to do.

How did you build your audience and what led you to create a subscription platform?
With over 170,000 engaged followers across platforms, I've built a trusted community of surgical professionals, students, and aspiring clinicians in about a year who want to learn what really happens past that red line.
I kept hearing the same thing from my followers: "I would pay money for this information." That's when I realized I needed to create something more than just social media content—I needed a platform where people could access organized, structured education that would actually help them in the OR.

What made you choose Movement over other platforms? Did you try any others?
Honestly, Movement was the first thing I tried, and it has been working great for me.
How has Movement helped you grow, simplify, or scale?
Launched in May 2025, after comments from followers saying, "I would pay money for this information," Beyond Assisting has grown into a subscription-based platform with over 950 sales, 77 active members, and nearly $14,000 in revenue - proving there is a real demand for approachable, authentic surgical education.
I was able to grow my follower count quickly, which I was not expecting. I would just like to maintain my subscribers as well as grow my subscriber count.

What features or aspects of Movement have been most useful for your work?
Being able to add videos and make it easy for people to navigate through and find what they need to know quickly. That way they could watch a quick video before they go into a procedure and feel more confident and prepared going into it.

What would you tell another coach or creator considering Movement?
I have told a few people already actually that it is very easy to use and put together. If you have an issue or a question about how to do something, the response is quick and Movement gets on it right away.

After building 170,000 followers in a year sharing Operating Room knowledge, Alyssa Ellis saw a gap that social media couldn't fill: OR professionals needed organized, accessible education—not just free tips. She built Beyond Assisting to solve the problem she'd seen repeatedly throughout her 17-year career: healthcare workers stepping into surgery without proper training and sometimes quitting because of it.
Movement gave Alyssa exactly what she needed to build an education app and hub: easy video organization, simple navigation for busy OR professionals to find what they need fast, and subscription features that let her monetize without technical headaches. The results speak for themselves: launched in May 2025, Beyond Assisting has already generated nearly 950 sales and close to $14,000 in revenue in under nine months—proof that there's real demand for approachable, authentic surgical education.
For healthcare educators, clinical professionals with specialized knowledge, or anyone who's built a following sharing expertise that people desperately need organized and accessible—Alyssa's story shows what's possible when you build a platform that delivers real value. As she puts it: "A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle." If you've helped even one person feel more confident walking into the OR for the first time, you've done what you set out to do. But when you build the right platform, you can light thousands of candles.
