How Movement transformed SterkHer’s pre and postnatal training

Romana, founder of SterkHer, has been dedicated to supporting pre and postnatal women through fitness and education since 2017. Based in Amsterdam, she initially built her online programs on her own website using plugins and platforms like LearnDash. However, as her business grew, she needed a more flexible, user-friendly solution that would allow her clients to log workouts, track progress, and feel supported without added pressure. That search led her to discover Movement, transforming the way she delivers her programs.

In this Q&A, Romana shares why she chose Movement, how it addressed the challenges she faced with other platforms, and the measurable impact it has had on her business and client experience. Read on to learn how Movement helped Romana elevate SterkHer and better support her community.

How did you come across Movement?

I've been running pre and postnatal online programs since 2017 and initially started on my own website using plugins for WordPress. Then, I moved to LearnDash, which is an e-learning platform like Kajabi that can fully integrate with your website. About two years ago, I was like “Okay, this works for a training program, but it's not perfect because people need to be able to log their weights and their reps and see their progress. For a course it's fine, but for those practical things, it just didn't work anymore. So I went on Google and looked up all the white label app programs, and put them all together next to each other—like Movement, Trainerize and more. I went through them and thought Movement was the best for me because it's so customizable. It looks good—it doesn't look like a white label app when you use it.

What specific problems did you face with other platforms, and how did Movement solve them?

I tried Trainerize and I didn’t like the homepage of the app. People could log their results, and they would get presented badges like, “You did great this week, because you did such and such.” But with my target group, especially early postpartum moms, they can be very insecure about their bodies, or question “Am I doing everything right?” It can be so much pressure. That kind of pressure is hard. Opening an app that says, "You only did one workout this week" or "You still need to do X" can be discouraging, and I couldn’t switch those off.

With Movement, you can as it's like your own website. Basically, you can make your own website out of it and that was perfect for me, because then I could remove all those features I didn't need to use, and it would become a place where moms can log in and look up all the educational content or just do their workout. So that's what worked for me—it’s cool.

Have you seen any measurable outcomes since using Movement?

Since I’ve been doing this since 2017, I have a pretty big client base. I do notice that the women who trained with me before I put the whole program into the app are very happy with it. For them, it's a huge improvement. And you can tell if someone does a pregnancy program, they continue on with the postnatal program. Before, not all of them would do that because they missed an app, so I’ve seen a change in that regard.

My boyfriend asked me the same thing a few months ago, ‘Do you see a difference in profits?’ I said “I'm not sure if it's the app, or if it's just that more women get to know me online and through the programming.” But I do think the women that do buy it, they're so happy with the app—they tell me through the feedback form, so they're very happy that they can use the app. So I think they will tell others about it and that should definitely help in the long-term.

What do you particularly like about Movement?

I like how many customization options there are so that I can fully tailor the app to my own branding. I love how I can put my creativity in the design of the app and the ease of use for my clients. The support is great.

Also, the flexibility with how many members you can add because I let people keep the program for life, so to speak. Of course, it's never for life, but there's no cap on it.

How many members do you currently have on the app?

I think there are almost 6,000 people in Movement, but of those, about half are active. Since there’s no time cap on it, they can always come back later.

That’s basically how my client group is. Moms will say, “I’m so tired this month, I’ll try again next month.” And that’s fine; there’s no pressure—I think that’s part of it. It’s not that the app isn’t right or they don’t know how it works—they do, and they tell me it works fine for them. It’s just about the commitment.

What does the future of SterkHer look like? Would you ever expand into English-speaking countries?

I’ve thought about it, but there are so many great coaches in the US and in Australia, so I don’t really feel the need. And, in the Netherlands, I’m basically the only one, with just one other platform offering online programming and that’s it. In Belgium, I am the only one. So, in a way, it’s not necessary, I guess.

Also, I am currently writing a new program for women with pelvic pain, so it feels like there’s still so much to cover in my native language. I think there are about 200,000 babies born a year in the Netherlands, so it’s not a small pool of clients. So, no, not for now.
